On Sept 15, 2018, Hurricane Florence caused significant flooding throughout eastern NC. The Newport River was so full of storm runoff; Little Deep Creek could no longer move water out of the Town of Newport. The eastern half of Nellie Street was underwater. Church Street heading north from Nellie Street was now impassable unless you had a very high truck or a boat. Many homes on the Newport Loop road were flooded. Locals, who had lived here all their lives, said that this was historic flooding. On that day, GZ was under about a foot and a half of water. I hope that it will now be dry for many, many years to come.
Note: Little Deep Creek is over a tenth of a mile away from your location.
