Geocache Description:


Le  siège  social  de  la  Banque  d'Épargne  de  la  Cité  et du District de Montréal est construit en
plusieurs étapes. La Banque se porte d'abord acquéreur d'un premier terrain en 1869 sur lequel elle
érige  la  première  section  de l'édifice en 1870-1871. Conçu par l'architecte Michel Laurent, l'édifice
présente alors une façade étroite rue Saint-Jacques et une façade plus longue qui longe la rue Saint-
Jean. La Banque acquiert peu aprèss une autre propriété sur laquelle elle prolonge, en 1872-1873, la
façade de la rue Saint-Jean d'une quinzaine de mètres.
Elle acquiert un autre terrain en 1874 où l'on double, en 1875-1876, la façade de la rue Saint-Jacques.
De  1999  à  2001,  l'édifice  fait  l'objet  de  travaux  majeurs  de  rénovation  et  a  été transformé en
établissement hôtelier.

The head office of the Banque d'Épargne de la Cité et du District de Montréal is built in many stages. The Bank first acquired a first piece of land in 1869 on which it erects the first section of the building in 1870-1871. Designed by architect Michel Laurent, the building then has a narrow frontage rue Saint-Jacques and a longer facade along the rue Saint-Jean. The Bank soon acquired another property on which it extended, in 1872-73, the facade of the street Saint-Jean of about fifteen meters. It acquires another land in 1874 where one doubles, in 1875-1876, the facade of the street Saint-Jacques. From 1999 to 2001, the building underwent major renovations and was transformed into hotel establishment.
