Molara è un'isola della Sardegna nord-orientale e costituisce, insieme all'isola di Tavolara, Molarotto, la penisola di Punta Coda Cavallo e altri scogli minori, un parco marino protetto. Molara è famosa per le sue piscine che regalano colori mozzafiato e una biodiversità ideale per lo snorkeling (saraghi, corvine, orate, ricciole, scorfani, murena, nacchere di mare, polpi…).
Fatti curiosi

Il suo nome, di origine medievale, è dovuto alla sua forma tondeggiante che ricorda una mola.

Vicino a Cala Chiesa potete ammirare lo scoglio del dinosauro, un piccolo T-rex che veglia sui mari.

Sull’isola sono presenti dei ruderi di un monastero di monache del XV secolo che ebbe vita breve, un solo secolo, a causa delle continue incursioni di pirati.

Nel medioevo l’isola diventò la base di una flotta di pirati saraceni. Su quella che oggi è nota come punta Casteddu venne quindi costruito un piccolo castello, in parte ancora in piedi, per vigilare sullo specchio di mare tra Molara e Tavolara.

Sull’isola si possono avvistare capre e vacche selvatiche, discendenza dei capi di bestiame allevati sull’isola nel XIX secolo. Ai tempi l’isola era autosufficiente grazie anche alle sorgenti perenni.

Negli anni ‘50 del secolo scorso una coppia di amanti trovò rifugio nella Grotta del Bandito. I due erano in fuga poiché la famiglia di lei si opponeva all’unione. I due furono aiutati da un pastore dell’isola che fece anche ragionare il padre della ragazza poi sbarcato sull’isola armato. Alla fine i due giovani si sposarono.

Molara is an island in the north-eastern Sardinia and it is part of a protected marine park , together with the island of Tavolara, Molarotto, the peninsula of Punta Coda Cavallo and other minor rocks. Molara is famous for its natural pools that offer breathtaking colors and an amazing biodiversity, ideal for snorkeling (diplodus, corvine, sea bream, amberjack, scorpion fish, moray eel, sea-noses, octopus...).

Its name (medieval origin) is due to its round shape that resembles a grindstone.

Near Cala Chiesa you can admire the dinosaur rock (a small T-rex that watches over the seas).

On the island there are also ruins of an ancient monastery of nuns (fifteenth century) that didn’t last long, only one century, due to the continuous pirate raids.

In the Middle Ages the island became the base of a fleet of Saracen pirates. A small castle was built on what is now known as Punta Casteddu, partly still standing, to watch over the sea between Molara and Tavolara.

On the island you can spot wild goats and cows, descendants of cattle raised on the island in the 19th century. At the time the island was self-sufficient thanks to the perennial springs.

In the 1950s a pair of lovers found refuge in the Grotta del Bandito on Molara island. The two were on the run as her family was against the union. The two were helped by an island shepherd who also became a peacemaker with the girl’s father, who in the meanwhile was landed on the island, armed, in order to get back the daughter. Finally the two lovebirds got married.

Molara est une île du nord-est de la Sardaigne qui fait partie d'un parc marin protégé, avec l'île de Tavolara, Molarotto, la péninsule de Punta Coda Cavallo et autres rochers mineurs. Molara est réputée pour ses piscines naturelles qui offrent des couleurs à couper le souffle et une incroyable biodiversité, idéale pour la randonnée palmée (sars, corb, dorade, sériole, rascasse, murène, grande nacre, poulpe ...).

Son nom (d’origine médiévale) est dû à sa forme ronde qui ressemble à une meule.

Près de Cala Chiesa, vous pourrez admirer le rocher du dinosaure (un petit tyrannosaure qui surveille la mer).

Sur l’île, il y a aussi des ruines d’un ancien monastère de religieuses (XVe siècle) qui n’a pas duré longtemps, seulement un siècle, en raison des incursions continues des pirates.

Au Moyen ge, l'île devint la base d'une flotte de pirates sarrasins. Sur ce qui est maintenant connu comme Punta Casteddu, un petit château a été construit, en partie encore visible, pour surveiller la mer entre Molara et Tavolara.

Sur l'île vous pourrez apercevoir des chèvres et des vaches sauvages, descendantes du bétail élevé sur l'île au 19ème siècle. À l'époque, l'île était autosuffisante grâce aussi aux sources pérennes.

Dans les années 1950, un couple d’amoureux s’est réfugié dans la Grotta del Bandito, sur l’île de Molara. Les deux étaient en fuite car la famille de la femme s’opposait à leur union. Les deux amoureux ont été aidés par un berger de l’île qui est également intervenu auprès du père de la fille qui, entre-temps, était arrivé sur l’île, armée, afin de récupérer sa fille. Finalement les deux tourtereaux se sont mariés.
La cache est une petite boite bleue et verte.
