This cache is located on the Fort Rucker military installation. Beginning 1 June 2001, military authorities will begin restricting the currently free access to the installation – however, you may obtain a day pass to utilize the installation's facilities at any gate. The Beaver Lake recreation area and jogging trails provide a plausible destination as well as a convenient parking area for the short hike to the cache. You may also wish to visit the Army Aviation museum while you are here – or play a round of golf at the Silver Wings golf course.
If you begin this quest from the jogging trailheads, follow the blue route along the paved path across the Beaver Lake earthen dam. If you choose to begin from the recreation area, you can drive along a dirt access road across the earthen dam to a small parking area on the far side. Once across the dam, continue along the paved jogging trail up the hill to the juncture of an obvious dirt trail on the right. Resist the urge to go direct at least until the trail crosses a small stream below a pond on the trail's left. Obvious trails will bring you within 300 feet of the cache site if you choose to follow them.
The cache is a rectangular clear plastic spaghetti container about 4 x 6 x 12 inches with a circular white flip-top cap. You may need to walk beyond the site and look back to actually see the cache. The original contents are a multi-purpose kitchen tool, a travel alarm, a pack of AA batteries, a bottle of bubbles, and a can cozy. Of course there is also a logbook and pencil for you to record your visit.
