The East Rattlesnake Trail is a short (approximately 45 minutes), well marked, climb with occasional steep
terrain. It is not as well groomed as the Bridle Path Trail on West Rattlesnake and gets much less use. The view from the top is of Squam Lake (shown in the movie, On Golden Pond) and the many small peaks of
the Lakes Region. Bring a picnic to eat on the ledges at the summit while you take in the magnificent scenery.
Take exit 24 off I 93 and follow Rt. 3 to Ashland (for a treat, stop at the Common Man Restaurant for lunch or
dinner) and into Holderness. Turn left on Rt. 113 in Holderness and go 5 miles to Pinehurst Road. There is a sign there for Rockywold and Deephaven. Follow the road toward the service entrance until it intersects with
Bacon Rd. Park on the road or in the small parking area just before the road becomes private. All trails start 300 feet up Pinehurst Road. If you need to purchase a sandwich, pizza, broasted chicken, drinks, etc., go past where you should turn left onto Rt.113 and look for a gas station and a store that are about a 1/2 mile
up the road.
