Geocache Description:

My first urban-forest geocache takes you down secluded trails of Blue Heron Park. It is a 16 hectare park owned and managed by the Memorial Park Society. You will experience sounds of rustling leaves and observe pockets of sunshine amidst the shade of heavy canopy. Allot thirty to forty minutes to retrieve this cache. Terrain is very even and no bush wacking is necessary. Boots may be a good idea during the wet months of the year.

Choose either the South trail head or the East trail head. The South trail head is the quickest path with on-street parking. Parking for accessing the East trail head involves parking your vehicle at the Lilliam Hoffar Park parking lot, located directly across from the entrance. To mention, there is a North Trail as well but that is accessible through the McDonald Campground. To note, it is at this Northern portion of the Park that you have access to ammenities such as picnic tables, washrooms and playing fields.

Some interesting points of nature is that the forest cover here is up to 80% and parts are identified as an ecological preservation area. Terrestrial species include the sharp-tailed snake; a fascinating part of the Islands biodiversity, they're slug eaters!! I saw one myself, harmless enough, really small. Just leave them alone if you come across one. If you're keen, get the coordinates and report the sighting to the Ministry of Environment.

Geographic Coordinates take you to a marvelous Western Red Cedar as the Geocache name refers. This tree species is one of the biggest here on Vancouver Island. Enjoy the grandiousness of this scarlet beauty!!

Be sure to sign the log and please replace the Geocache as found, thanks!
