Geocache Description:

Bowstring Wildlife Area is an 87-acre woodland area that features wooded hillsides that open into several fingers of restored prairies offering a view over the floodplain bottom bordering Lytle Creek. The name ‘Bowstring’ comes from the unique form of bridge leading to only this property as the road stops. This bridge was built in 1878 and is one of three bowstring structures in the state of Iowa that is still standing at its original site. The area is open to hunting with an abundance of wildlife species and maintained food plots throughout the site. Hiking trails trace though the hillsides and up the prairies as well. This area is located on the southern end of Dubuque County off Creek Branch Lane near Zwingle, Iowa. Find this geocache in a unique spot that highlights the name of this property. While this geocache isn't far into the property, it still provides a great view of Lytle Creek.  *BEWARE OF WASPS ON THE BRIDGE IN CREVICES*

The Great Dubuque County Geocaching Series highlights the public parks, campgrounds, preserves, wildlife & recreation areas managed by the Dubuque County Conservation Board. With 2,358 acres of property, Dubuque County has, "Something for Everyone", in terms of fishing, hiking, frisbee golfing, hunting, camping, boating, biking, and many more activities. 16 geocaches are hidden throughout these Dubuque County areas where you will venture to rivers, prairies, bluffs, forests, mounds, a canyon, and find a diversity of plants and animals while you're at it. Within each of the posted geocaches is a clue for a hidden, bonus, geocache. Put all the clues/digits in alphabetical order of the parks, to create the coordinates of the bonus geocache. Example: Bankston (N), Bowstring (5), Fillmore (8°) would be N 58°. 2 parks do NOT have geocaches due to previous geocaches there, the clues of these parks for the bonus geocache are: Graf Park (3) and Massey Park (0') Happy geocaching!
