On the first Saturday on June, a local running club has an event called the double dip. It is a half marathon that has competitors summiting Mount Sentinel and University Mountain, with a total elevation gain of 2700'.
This three stage multicache will have you ascending Mount Sentinel's southern peak two times. Not nearly as grueling as a 1/2 marathon, yet total distance is somewhere between 4.5 and 5 miles and close to 1900' of elevation gain.
At the first stage you will find a memorial plaque. The coordinates of the second stage are:
N 46 50.ABC
W 113 58.DEF
A = last digit on the last date
B = first digit on the last date
C= # of letters in the second word
D= # of letters in the persons first name
E= # of letters in the persons last name
F= # of dates shown
There are three directions the trails can take you from this location, choose the most obvious.
At stage two you will be able to find the coordinates for the third and final location, they are:
N 46 50.ZYX
W 113 58.WVU
Z= # of letters in third word
Y= first number times the second number
X= # of words on the last line
W= second digit on the last line
V= # of letters in the second word on the third line
U= # of letters in the third word on the first line
The trailhead coordinates are for the most direct, yet steepest approach to the first stage. There are a number of other trails that can be taken to get to stage 1.
