Geocache Description:

Remains of the wall

🇬🇧 The forgotten castle at Gradišče above Draga village is forgotten indeed. The ruins were first mentioned at the end of the 19th century. It took nearly another century before it was noted on the map of archaeology sites. Three decades more had to pass before archaeologists visited it again and registered what was still left at the site. There are no written sources about the castle. The scholars believe it was built in the 12th or 13th century as a fortification in the border area of several domains. It was probably abandoned a century before the devastating earthquake of 1511.

Now, geocachers can visit it and explore the visible remains of the walls and two magnificent defence trenches, cut into the bedrock of the south ridge. Follow the trail around over the western slope and don't climb straight up from the trench. Look for the 350 ml lock & lock box in a natural and fairly classical hiding place (don't touch the wall, it's not there). Once you find it, sit down for a while at this forgotten place and picture the Middle Age times in your mind. First to find shouldn't forget the unactivated trackable FTF prize.
