Geocache Description:

15 September 2019, 14:00 - 15:15

Where?

Kedron Brook Bikeway, access via Nudgee Rd (see map below).

What is involved?

A CITO is a special event type held with the intention to give back to the community by improving the natural environment in some way.  If you're unfamiliar with what's involved in participating in a CITO, click here for an FAQ.

This is a rubbish pickup CITO run in conjuction with Brisbane City Council (BCC) who will take away all the rubbish we find, and Clean Up Australia Day (CUAD) who will be providing bags and equipment. All attendees will need to sign in and out on the CUAD register provided in order to be covered under their public liability insurance. The staging area is at the provided coordinates just off Nudgee Rd, where limited parking is available, some may need to park further along the road.

The areas we are targetting are along the edge of Kedron Brook, where there is lots of rubbish and flood debris among the mangroves. To reach the creek area, be aware that a 10-15 minute walk from the staging area is required, so you will be getting some exercise. You will need to bring any rubbish you find back to the staging area. This means that although you could ride your bike, it may be difficult to balance a bag of rubbish while riding, so it's probably easier to just walk the distance.

What to Bring?

Please wear appropriate clothing, headwear and footwear. BYO sunscreen, bug spray (recommended) and water. We recommend bringing a grabber tool or gloves if you can. Bags will be provided. Bring a hi-vis vest for safety along the bikeway if you have one.

What's in it for Me?

  • Help give back to the wider community and the ecosystem by removing rubbish and cleaning up wildlife habitat areas. Rubbish that enters the waterways can have devastating impacts on all downstream ecosystems for a prolonged time period, so waterway cleanups have a wider impact on all marine habitats.
  • Healthy outdoor exercise in a nice location with a group of like-minded individuals.
  • Find a few geocaches along the tracks while you're here.
  • If that's not enough motivation for you, you get also get a 😃 for attending, and as a bonus all attendees will earn the CITO 2019 Season 2 souvenir

Safety Messages

  • Heavy trucks from the nearby recycling plant pass along Nudgee Rd frequently, so please watch your small children and Thomases along the roadside.
  • This is an active bikeway, so to be respectful and safe please walk single file, wear bright clothing, stay to the left edge of the path, and step off the path when stopping.
