Murrays Beach car park to Governor Head: 1.1 km, 20 minutes
Directly behind Murrays Beach is a trail that leads to the Governor Head lookout. Here you’ll find information about Bowen Island and its thriving penguin population.
This beautiful beach looks out to Bowen Island, where our local little penguin colony lives and breeds. If you come here in the evening you’ll see the penguins coming past, yapping to one another as they head home after feeding in the park’s waters during the day.
Murrays is one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia even more so than the famous Hyams beach with the worlds whitest sand. You will need a day or year pass to get into this park but it is well worth it. Make a day of it and stop and take a look at Murrays or go for a swim or a fish. You are not allowed to collect anything from the park and smoking is prohibited at all times.
Best to wear covered in shoes there are a few red bellied black snakes at times just keep yur distance and you'll be fine. The track is very wide so safe enough for even those with a fear of snakes to walk along just keep your eye open and if worried pick up a walking stick and stomp it as you walk. The vibrations will keep snakes away so they say! lol Binoculars would also be good this point has a lookout and you can spot whales, penguins, dolphins and even sea lions if you are lucky. Also watch out for the beautiful white sea eagles that live around the area. Watch the little ones the lookout sits on a cliff.
