Trattandosi Lecce di una delle città più ricche di architetture e scorci caratteristici, può capitare che alcuni piccoli “segreti”, disseminati per il centro storico, possano essere tralasciati dai turisti e, molto spesso, anche dagli stessi cittadini che sono soliti girare per le strade del centro; si tratta di aspetti o luoghi che non sono facilmente raggiungibili o la cui storia, se non la si conosce, passa del tutto inosservata.
Da visitare durante le ore diurne, il ficus gigante di tipo magnoloides è uno degli alberi più grandi della città. Si trova all’interno del giardino dell’ex-conservatorio di Sant’Anna, e si tratta di una pianta antichissima con un’età compresa fra i quattrocento ed i cinquecento anni.
Ricordo chiaramente quando, da bambino, vidi l’albero per la prima volta, e le sue dimensioni dal mio piccolo punto di vista erano ancora più d’impatto. Poi, dopo tanto tempo, quasi dimenticai della sua esistenza, e oggi decido di rendergli omaggio dedicandogli una cache in modo che questo angolo possa essere scoperto dalla comunità di Geocachers.

Since Lecce is one of the cities with the greatest amount of characteristic architectures and views, it can happen that some little “secrets”, spread around the historical centre, may be overlooked by tourists and, more often than not, even by the citizens who are used to roam around the streets; we’re talking about aspects or locations not easily reachable or characterized by a story that, if not told, may be unwillingly ignored.
To visit during daytime we have the giant ficus of the magnoloides kind, one of the tallest tree of the city. It’s located inside the garden of the ex-conservatory of Saint Ann, and it’s an ancient plant with an age of four hundred to five hundred years old.
I clearly remember when, as a kid, I saw the tree for the first time, and its size from my tiny point of view was even more impactful. Then, after many years, I almost forgot about its existence, and today I’m choosing to pay my respects by dedicating it a cache so that this place can be discovered by the Geocaching community.
