Geocache Description:

Sockburn Railway Station

The Sockburn Railway Station was part of the Network of station on the Great Southern Line to Invercargill.

Station Opened 12 October 1866

Closed March 1987

There is no sign of the platform now but a significant remaining item is the walkway over bridge that is still in use today and well maintained. The Station was located on the other side of the bridge from GZ. You get a great view of the tracks from the bridge and when I was setting this one up there were train spotters watching and photographing a train in motion.

The cache is a camo pill bottle on the road side of the fence and there is no need to go near the tracks and the track can be see through the 8 foot fence.
