The view from Le Quai du Havre du Mont Orgueil, otherwise known as Gorey Harbour, is one of our favourites so we had to place a cache here to share this place with others.
The area has been used for loading cargo since the Middle Ages, with the current structure completed in 1817 at a cost of £16,000. In the years that followed the area became more built up, with houses and hotels, and a lighthouse was added in 1849. By 1890 Gorey was also served by the Jersey Eastern Railway, all the way to the pier to serve the French ferries. As ships got bigger, the harbour lost its commercial aspect and today it homes predominantly smaller crafts, but remains Jersey’s only Customs port apart from St Helier.
How to get here:
Car, parking at Gorey Harbour, with a pay card, or free at long beach car park, about a 10 minute walk.
Bus, routes 1,1a, 2 and 13
Cycle, routes 1 or 3
Update: 03/09/19, moved from the pier due to repeatedly going missing, clue and coordinates changed accordingly
