Kleifaheidi is a mountain pass linking Bardastrond with Patreksfjordur. The building of the road, over 60 years ago, was considered a major feat and it greatly improved communications in the West Fjords.
At the highest point (404m) there is a cairn, a curious stack of stones in the shape of a man.
Its long been a tradition for road construction workers to erect a monument on completing a difficult stretch of road. This one, called Kleifabui, ‘inhabitant of Kleif’, watches over those who travel the road.
It´s a short “park and grab” traditional cache and can be found within few steps of the car.
Enjoy the view.
