1970-1980 -luvut olivat vinyylilevyjen kulta-aikaa. 1990-luvun loppua kohti alkoi näyttää kuitenkin siltä, että CD:t syrjäyttävät vinyylit täysin, mutta niinpä vain vinyyli-LP:t ja -singlet palasivat kuin palasivatkin takaisin levykauppojen hyllyille. Lukumäärät ovat toki pieniä suoratoiston vallattua markkinat, mutta todennäköisesti LP-myynti tulee lähivuosina ohittamaan CD-myynnin.
Boguspisteen koordinaatit osoittavat rakennukseen, jossa toimi Suomen viimeinen vinyyliprässäämö vielä 1990-luvun alkuvuosina. Tämän jälkeen rokkitähdet eivät ole voineet prässäyttää biisejään vinyylille Suomessa, mutta muualla maailmassa on säilynyt joitakin jo 1960-luvulla toimintansa aloittaneita prässäämöitä. Lisäksi viimeisten 10-15 vuoden aikana useat uudet levyprässäämöt ovat aloittaneet toimintansa niin Euroopassa kuin muuallakin maailmalla. Levyjen keräilijät usein tunnistavat levyn valmistaneen prässäämön biisien ja levyn etiketin välissä sijoittuvalle matriisialueelle tehdyistä kaiverruksista.
Edit 2024-08-03: Kätkön laatimisen aikaan Suomessa ei prässäämöä ollut, mutta nykyään täällä on jälleen yksi laadukas vinyyliprässäämö, Puristamo nimeltään.
Mysti: Montako uraa normaalille LP-levylle yleensä kaiverretaan? Voit jättää matriisialueen kaiverrukset laskuista. Pohjoiskoordinaatit löytyvät seuraavasti: Ota neliöjuuri urien lukumäärästä ja poimi desimaalipisteen jälkeen ensin kahdeksas, sitten kolmastoista jne numero alla olevan sarjan mukaisesti. Itäkoordinaatit taas ratkeavat normaalin 7" singlen urien lukumäärän neliöjuuresta vastaavalla tavalla.

Have you ever wanted to be a rock star? Release albums, play on stage, go on world tours? Maybe autograph album covers for fans?
1970s and 1980s were the golden years for vinyl records. Towards the end of 1990s it started to look like the CDs will fully replace vinyl records but after all, the vinyl LPs and singles returned back to the record stores. The plain sales amounts are naturally small as the music streaming services conquered the markets, but most likely the LP sales will surpass the CD sales in the next couple of years.
The bogus coordinates point to the building where the last vinyl pressing plant in Finland operated still in the early 1990s. After that, the rock stars haven't been able to get their songs pressed on vinyl in Finland but elsewhere there are still a few vinyl pressing plants that started already in the 1960s. Additionally, a whole bunch of new pressing plants have appeared during the past 10-15 years both in Europe and in the rest of the world. Record collectors are often able to identify the pressing plant from the engravings in the matrix area located in between the songs and the disc label.
Edit 2024-08-03: At the time of creating this cache there was no pressing plant in Finland but since then the situation has changed, as there's now again a high-quality vinyl pressing plant, Puristamo.
Puzzle: How many grooves are cut on a normal LP record? You may leave out any matrix area engravings out of the equation. The north coordinates can be figured out this way: Take a square root of the amount of grooves and, after the decimal point, first pick the 8th number, then the 13th number and so forth according to the series below. The east coordinates are determined by taking a square root of the number of grooves of a normal 7" single in the same fashion.
