L'édifice Salada est construit en 1917 par la Greater Montreal Land Investment Company, une compagnie formée par un groupe d’investisseurs francophones. D' abord pour des fins d’entrepo-
sage, on prévoit cependant dès l’origine qu’il pourrait être converti en immeuble de bureaux, ce qui explique sa composition architecturale qui se rapproche davantage de ce type d’édifice.
Acheté en septembre 1920 par la Salada Tea Company, on y aménage les bureaux, les espaces d’entreposage et les instal-
lations manufacturières de la compagnie.
En 1925, la Salada Tea Company commande une sculpture de Marguerite Bourgeoys que l’on intègre à la façade donnant sur la rue Le Royer.
L’entreprise compte ainsi souligner le rôle de la fondatrice des soeurs de la Congrégation de Notre-Dame dont le couvent s’élevait sur cet emplacement jusqu’en 1912.
The Salada building was built in 1917 by the Greater Montreal Land Investment Company, a company formed by a group of francophone investors. First for storage purposes, however, it is anticipated from the outset that it could be converted into an office building, which explains its architectural composition which is closer to this type of building.
Purchased in September 1920 by the Salada Tea Company, the offices, warehouses and manufacturing facilities of the company are located there.
In 1925, the Salada Tea Company commissioned a sculpture of Marguerite Bourgeoys that was added to the facade overlooking Le Royer Street.
The company intends to highlight the role of the founder of the sisters of the Congregation of Notre-Dame whose convent stood on this site until 1912.
