BACKGROUND:
This cache is part of the "Family serie - Toys history": 13 caches placed on a 6km loop that runs along the noord-hollands kanaal, through the polder between Alkmaar and Bergen and back.
This serie intends to introduce new people to the joys of geocaching. For the motivation of youngest geocachers, the caches are made of old toys from JULEAR! (containers from Play-Doh storage boxes or bubble blowers, logbooks in stamps or kinder eggs as displayed).
As such, caches are of very diverse characteristics (nature, shape and size) and meant to be easily found. Retrieving them does sometimes call on collaboration. A family serie thus, and a great reason to get out of the house.
Beware of possible risks, though! While searching a cache, JU fell in a canal. Over the whole serie the advice KIDS (Keep It Dry, Seriously) applies, both to geocachers and logbooks, please.
So, BYOP (Bring Your Own Pencil), pick a dry day, pack a picnic and - for stealth too ;-) - do use the resting facilities made available to you along the way. As you walk this path, please consider collecting/thrashing garbage: A civic competition for the children accompanying you. No caches are hidden into bins, so you will not reveal cache locations by using them! ;-)
Considering that caches are made of toys, it may be tempting to unknowingly keep some of their - cache related! - content. For this reason, you are kindly asked to ONLY use few caches for dropping / exchanging items. Please do not drop (and take) ANYTHING in (from) the other caches, except from GC8C4CZ, GC8C4R6 and this bonus cache (GC8C7FF)!

- Cache 3: GC8C3F9, on the theme of climbing;
- Cache 4: GC8C4CZ, on the theme of birds spotting;
- Cache 5: GC8BZ0R, on the theme of golf;
- Cache 6: GC8C4DB, on the theme of scouting;
- Cache 7: GC8C4R6, on the theme of resting;
- Cache 8: GC8C3EY, on the theme of mechanics;
- Cache 9: GC8CCDZ, on the hide-and-seek theme;
- Cache 10: GC8C341, on the theme of gardening;
- Cache 11: GC8CCB8, on the theme of biking;
- Cache 12: GC8BYZ6, on the party theme;

The path will also take you near GC6R78H, GC86043 (AR first cache at 50 months old!), GC6CPCD, GC86V2P and GC87M6K.
After cache 2, you could also return to the start of the serie - shortening the walk - by crossing the canal. This would take you near GC5PD63, GC5WTGM and GC5WTNV. With cache 1, 2, GC6R78H and GC86043, you have the opportunity to score 7 caches in less than 2 km, ideal for the youngest cachers.
[When enquired, both gemeente Alkmaar and Bergen indicated that - provided that obvious safety and protection measures are taken - no authorisation is needed for hiding geocaches on public spaces on their territories.]
This cache (Family serie - Toys history: Bonus / TB hotel):
This cache is a (heavy) mysterie: You will need to find 4 caches of the serie, bearing indications (A, B, C and D) hidden within them. These indications will lead you to the location of this bonus cache at the following coordinates: N 52 39.UVW' E 4 44.XYZ'.
With U = C; V = 2 * B; W = A * A; X = B + D; Y = A + D; Z= A + B.
This cache is also a TB hotel: A cache large enough to host many "travel bugs" (TB) at the same time. Its location, close to the parking, makes it a great stop for swapping TBs. However this cache then needs protection! It is therefore hooked and sealed with a padlock...
So, once found, the bonus cache can be opened by applying the following combination to the padlock:
- First ciffer = Y
- Second ciffer = X
- Third ciffer = Z
Please consider posting a picture of the family with the opened cache while logging!
This cache is meant to be a TB hotel, please take/bring new items as you please. Beware though of the opening diameter under 40mm.
Deze cache is een (groot) mysterie: in 4 caches van de serie zitten verborgen aanwijzingen (A, B, C en D). Zorg dat je die vindt. Deze aanwijzingen heb je nodig om deze bonuscache te vinden . De bonuscache ligt op de volgende coördinaten: N 52 39.UVW 'E 4 44.XYZ'.

Deze cache is ook een TB-hotel: een cache die groot genoeg is om een aantal "travel bugs" (TB) tegelijkertijd te huisvesten. De locatie, dicht bij de parkeerplaats, maakt het een goede plek voor het ruilen van TB’s. Om er voor te zorgen dat de cache veilig ligt, is hij daarom vast gemaakt en afgesloten met een hangslot ...
Als de bonuscache eenmaal gevonden is, kan het hangslot worden geopend met de volgende combinatie (zie berekening hierboven):
- Eerste cijfer = Y
- Tweede cijfer = X
- Derde cijfer = Z
Een foto van het gezin met de geopende cache tijdens het loggen zou leuk zijn!
Deze cache is bedoeld als een TB hotel, je kan nieuwe TB’s achter laten als je wilt. Maar let op, ivm de openingsdiameter, kleiner dan 40 mm.
