Victorian Heritage Database Report

Level of significance:
           Heritage Inventory Site

Statement of Significance:
The musical gully area is significant as one of the earliest sites mined for gold in the Beaufort/Fiery Creek district.

History:
The site is located west of the first site of the gold rush on the main lead north of Beaufort, mined from 1855 onwards.
No specific details of this allotment were available.
The Musical Gully Reservoir is one of three reservoirs along a spring fed water race from Mount Cole.  The water race is likely to be one constructed in the early 1860S by the Wimmera Sluicing Company.

The Multi-cache:

The posted coordinates bring you to the main gates. There is no need to enter the reservoir.
In front of you there are a pair of very old signs. You don't need to gather any information from these, as they are much too difficult to read.
From the white sign, with blue writing:

  • Servicing Beaufort
  • Capacity = ABC ML
  • Surface area = D.F HECTARES
  • Depth = GH.J m
  • Constructed = KNPQ

Add GHJ to the South Coordinates
Add K(A+B)D to the East Coordinates

Checksums: South = 30 East = 34

The regular size cache is a short walk (or drive) away. Ample parking near GZ.
