Geocache Description:

Quick virtual Cache that provides a place to reflect as you travel up Big Thompson Canyon

As you travel up the Big Thompson Canyon you will notice a lot of signs that say "In case of flood, climb to safety". Those signs are part of the lessons learned from the Big Thompson Flood of 1976. One lesson learned was that it is natural instinct to stay in your car during a flash flood. It is this instinct that kills many people in a flash flood situation. Please take moment to reflect on the huge loss suffered by a large number of families that evening. Here is a link to a great flash slideshow from the Coloradoan about the Big Thompson flood. If you would like to see what lessons were learned from the flood you can find out more here. More information about flash floods can be found here.

In order to claim this cache you will need to tell me two things in an email. The number of people listed as killed on this memorial, and the almost unbelievable amount of water flowing down the canyon in CFS. No Internet "finds" please - use your GPS to find the site.
