There are several different reference systems that provide for the indication of the source data in the running text and listed in the reference list. One of them is the APA system.
The APA system is a parenthesis system. This means that the citation is given in parentheses directly in the running text. The source task consists of the author's last name and publication year. Other information about the source is shown in the reference list. Note that the citation is part of the graphical sentence and is always placed before the period mark.
Example:
Citations give the reader the ability to check your interpretation of the source text (Hedin IIII, 2008).
