Geocache Description:

The von Pressentin family is, hands down, the best-documented pioneer family in Skagit Valley an documented on the Skagit River Journal (http://skagitriverjournal.com/).

The Pressentin's descended from a noble family in Germany that has records spanning eight centuries. They traveled west in 1877 from Michigan in search of gold east near Ruby creek. A steamship brought them from Seattle to Mann's Landing (near Conway, then going by canoe and over land to Mount Vernon then again by canoe. Te trip from Mount Vernon to here took 3 days. A cabin was first established here on the north shore then they built a homestead on the south shore of the Skagit River in 1878.

We're not sure how long the ferry ran. We wonder how many of the current boat launches along the river started as ferry landings?

Information provided by Skagit River Journal (http://skagitriverjournal.com/).
