This geocache is located in the park which forms part of the new riverside residential development designed to reconnect the area with previously inaccessible areas of the river and to celebrate both the rich historic industry of the area and the legacy of the River Usk.
This park marks the site of part of the Old Town Dock, the first floating dock in Newport, opened in 1842 and filled in nearly 100 years later in 1930. This dock played an important role in supporting the expanding industry in the area and allowing larger ships to dock at Newport than could previously be accomodated. The dock eventually declined due to the contruction of two more much larger and more accessible docks, Alexandra and South.
