Geocache Description:

21 September 2019, 13:00 - 17:00

CITO 2019, Season Two
Attend a CITO from 1st September through to the end of November and get a souvenir.

Annual Pond Restoration at Hucclecote Meadows 13:00 - 17:00

Parking: There is some on street parking opposite the reserve on Laxton Road (or in many of the other side streets nearby).

Where: We will meet by the gate or find us in the pond (published co-ordinates).

What: Continuing what we started the previous years (this will be our 3rd year), we will be working to dig out reed and vegetation from the central area of the pond.

This will prevent the pond from becoming overgrown with vegetation. The material will be mounded around the edge of the pond to build up the bank in places to make it more usable for pond dipping.

There are also jobs around the outside of the pond if you would prefer to stay a bit dryer and cleaner. Such as clearing away scrub from around the waters edge and the fence.

How: Felicity the Countryside Ranger will be there providing guidance and any necessary tools.

If you are going in the pond, wellies or waders are essential as well as ‘old’ clothes which you don’t mind getting stinky and muddy!

Health and Safety: The session and will be covered by council insurance as long as you are working under the Countryside Ranger's instruction. They will introduce the session and do the health and safety brief prior to work commencing.

The Geocaching Association of Great Britain (GAGB). The Association was established in 2003 to provide a national geocaching organisation and serve as a UK point of contact for geocachers, landowners, the media and others with an interest in geocaching.

As part of its 10th anniversary, it was decided to hold a CITO weekend in September which has now become an annual event. It would be great to see more of these icons pop up across the country and for other members to hold their own events where it is not feasible to attend one that a committee member has organised.

There is a lot more information about what we do, including the landowner database, comprehensive event listings and forums at www.gagb.org.uk. If you would like to get involved follow the link and find our contact details.

The GAGB are encouraging everyone to organise CITO events this weekend, in part to pay-back for what we hope will have been a great summer of caching, and also to make things more pleasant for future cachers. If this CITO is the nearest one to you, please come along!
