History of the Ruch Library

The first library in Ruch was formed when community members worked together to establish the Ruch Community Library, which first opened in 1984, moving into the Sunshine Plaza in 1985. In 1986 the Ruch Community Library joined the Jackson County Library System and became the Ruch Branch Library. The library since has enjoyed strong community support, as evidenced by an active Friends of the Library group from the very beginning.

As the library continued to grow, the Sunshine Plaza location began to run out of space. Plans for new and updated libraries were part of a county-wide levy in 2000. Thanks to additional community support a new 6,200 square foot building was planned to greatly expand library space and include a community meeting space, areas for children and teens, and dedicated study spaces. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in February 2002. The library was dedicated a year later on February 8, 2003.

During the time period after a county-wide shutdown of library services in 2007, the Friends of the Ruch Library raised funds to provide additional operating hours for Saturday service. After the creation of the Jackson County Library District operating hours were fully funded and increased to 18 hours per week.

Instructions

The posted coordinates will place you at the entrance to the library. From here you will need to locate 2 plaques that you will use to find the final coordinates to the cache container location.

First Plaque

In Memory of Julia Helm Hoskins

You will need to take her birth year and subtract 1738. Use that 3 digit number to fill in the following: N 42 14.___

Second Plaque

Donated by the Mainwaring Family

You will need to take the year on the plaque and subtract 1404. Use that 3 digit number to fill in the following: W 123 2.___

The coordinates you decipher from those two problems will take you to the nearby cache container.
