The Michael Joseph Savage Memorial located at Bastion Point has one of the best views in Auckland looking out over the Waitematā Harbour and is an important site in NZ history.
Michael Joseph Savage was New Zealand's first Labour Prime Minister and he was respected by both Māori and Pākehā alike. His Labour government introduced many changes which would become integral in New Zealand’s social development, including fixed prices for dairy, construction of state housing, enforced membership of unions, and forming a political alliance with the Rātana church which still stands today.
Takaparawhā (Bastion Point) was given to the Crown by Ngāti Whātua as a defence site in 1885 and in 1988 as a Waitangi Tribunal’s recommendation it was returned to local iwi.
This entire area is well worth the visit and we encourage you to spend some time here.
This is an easy field puzzle based on the memorial and the final is located not too far away.
Final location can be calculated as follows:
S36 50.ABC E174 49.DEF
A = 2nd line, 3rd word
B = 6th line, 4th word
C = 1st line, 4th word
D = 8th line, 1st word
E = 6th line, 2nd word
F = 5th line, 3rd word
