The Charters Towers Pioneer Cemetary contains graves of people who died between 1872 and 1895. While only a fraction of the estimated 5 000 graves are marked they provide insights into the age, religion and causes of death locally in the late 1800's. For the interested there are some information boards to give you the lowdown on the cemetary. The Pioneer cemetary quickly filled up and a new (current) one opened on the Lynd Highway on the north side of town.
