Geocache Description:

This series highlights locations in Skagit County. These communities were formed in the early 1870's remaining up until the 1920's. Many of the names still appear on maps. A few have buildings remaining in use today. These communities and many others can be found on https:/www.skagitcounty.net/Maps/iMap/?mapjs=hist

Most maps show Sterling located about 800 feet N of this location. That is because maps use Federal records and this was the final location of the Post Office, being moved here when the railroad came through to Sedro. Post Office history states the Post Office was established April 7, 1879 along the river until transferred to Sedro in 1890. We attempted to hide the cache nearer to the train stop but it is illegal to place a cache so close to the un-protected rail line.

Information was provided by the Skagit County Historical Museum in La Conner, the Skagit River Journal. (http://skagitriverjournal.com) and U.S Post Office records.

Congratulations Oma & Opa G on the FTF.
