I love branching tidal channels. The sloughs in this area have lots of them, especially at high tide! I DNNTGOOB.
Come back and enjoy the marvelous paddling around Spencer Island. When we found the excellent nearby Union Four cache, it hadn't been visited in over three years! Many of the others in the "Loving Spencer Island" series are similar. I often feel like geocaching is in a state of decline. Prove me wrong with a resurgence of paddlers visiting this area!
It is not a casual paddle. When we did it, we put in more than eight miles of paddling, although some of that was because of poor map reading. The tide is a real factor, although if you go just before the high, you should be okay with most routes. But the channels certainly can be confusing, with their winding and branching; I love that!
Maybe someone should organize an event to find as many of the area's paddle caches as possible, with a bit of power boat assistance for the less strong kayakers! Any takers?
