Geocache Description:

A community-spirited but disappearing world....

John Cuncliffe was most well known as the author of the Postman Pat stories, traditional country tales of the mild mannered postman with his black and white sidekick. While the village of Greendale itself was in fact based on Longsleddale in Cumbria, John discloses that the inspiration for Pat himself came from his earlier life working as a mobile librarian around Wooler and the Glendale valley.

"Like Pat, I travelled around a rural area and met a great many farmers and other rural dwellers who were kind and generous in the way that the people of Greendale are,” he recalled. “It was all there, in my memory.”

The friendly, local sense of community was one of the most prominent features of the Postman Pat stories and continues to this day throughout rural Northumberland.

This cache is located near St Cuthberts Way.

Children are welcome to help themselves to a Postman Pat stamp alongside any swappable items.

*Please rehide this one carefully to ensure it doesn't catch the eye of unsuspecting Muggles.*
