Eliza Jane loved to walk along the towpath of the Erie Barge Canal. She and her Grandmother lived nearby in a small cottage in Gastown.
Now that she was 15, as long as the weather was nice, Grandmother would let her walk along the towpath by herself. Of course Boots would walk with her, he was an old dog, but a good companion.
Today was a very special day as the town had built a bridge to the nearby Island and there were many things to explore on the Island itself! There were so many wonderful stone structures that the local men had been building in their spare time! She and Boots set out after breakfast and morning chores were finished. And of course she packed a small lunch that she and Boots would enjoy once they had made it to the Island! They found a quiet place to sit by the water and a nice new stone campfire pit was even nearby! She did not need to build a fire today though, since it was a warm Autumn day. It would be nice if she could come back sometime with Grandmother and Uncle William to have a nice Sunday lunch here!
Please enjoy your visit to Eliza Jane's towpath, and bring along your dog to keep Boots company! Bring a friend, bring a picnic, but do not come at night.
