Showers Lake is tucked up against the mountains, far from any trailhead. But it is as lovely a lake as any you will find in the Tahoe region. Come look!
Showers Lake is a 5.5 mile hike one-way from the Meiss trailhead on Hwy 88 (N38 41.784 W119 59.509), or a 8.5 mile hike one-way from the Big Meadow trailhead on Hwy 89 (N38 47.320 W120 00.047). I can personally vouch for the second figure, because I hiked 17 miles round trip today from the Big Meadow trailhead to place this cache and the two Meiss Lake caches (GC8CYN5 and GC8CYNA). It was well worth it, though -- the scenery is gorgeous -- see photo below.
A short distance (approximately 70 meters (220 feet) along the trail to the south, at coordinates N38 44.401 W120 02.033, is the unmarked intersection of the Pacific Crest Trail and the Carson-Showers Ridge Trail, one of the most spectacular trails in the region. See the caches that have been placed along this trail (Carson-Showers Ridge Trail: Peak B, for example) for additional information.
