Geocache Description:

The cache is near to the entrance to the old Chehalis North Recreation Site. The campsite was obliterated in early December 2007, by a Lake Tsunami estimated at 10 meters or higher caused  by a massive landslide from Mt Orrock on the west side. This is the first time I have been back to the North end of the lake since the the devastation has happened. I was actually camping with friends at the North end Recreation site 2 weekends before the event, which has caused many discussions on the topic in the years since when we get together, of what could have happened. The pictures at the time in the news showed the damage and we were lucky it did not happen in the time we were there.

The original road That we use to take to the area ends near the Skwellepil Creek campground about 1/2 way up the lake on the west side just before where the landslide occured. The way to the North end is now from the Mystery Creek forest service road via the Forest service road that runs on the west side of Harrison Lake.

Over the years since I have Visited the Skwellepil Creek campground, but have not traversed our way to the North end. I thought it was time to visit an area that I guess I had been ignoring to keep the thoughts of what could have been.

When we visited we saw that not much has survived from that time before the event (it has been years), we did glimpse a few things though. There were quite a few campers in the area that seemed to be enjoying themselves. The road in we traveled  the the cache site can be done in 2WD even saw a couple of motor homes camping. However remember this is still back country travel and come prepared

We will I am sure, will visit now on as it is still a very beautiful place, I do not see us though staying overnight.

Congrats to cookie_cacher & moicy on the FTF!
