Estamos ante unos restos que no aparecen en las guías turísticas y que por lo tanto no suelen visitarse. De hecho muchos emeritenses ni siquiera saben de su existencia ni su historia.
Esta torre forma parte del entramado defensivo de la ciudad. Una de las hipótesis que barajan los investigadores es que se trata de la muralla romana original, que posiblemente sufrió una disminución de su grosor. Otra hipótesis es que la muralla es del siglo XI, para cuya edificación se reutilizarían, como a lo largo de toda la historia emeritense, sillares romanos rescatados de infinidad de rincones de la ciudad.
Lo que parece claro es que se trata de la muralla, por los materiales empleados (sillares) y por la disposición de las piezas.
Con el derribo del antiguo teatro María Luisa se ha descubierto un muro que se considera parte de la muralla y que estaba integrado en el edificio. Los trabajos arqueológicos continúan para descifrar cual es el verdadero origen y edad de estos restos.
EL CACHÉ
NO ES NECESARIO entrar en el recinto para encontrar este caché, aunque si queréis observar mejor esta torre y muralla podéis entrar sin problemas, ya que actualmente es la terraza de un bar.
Por favor, sed muy discretos, es una zona muy transitada y con locales desde los que os pueden ver aunque parezca que no. Por favor, déjalo como lo encontraste. No pongas pistas ni fotografías sobre el contendor en el registro.

We are in front of ruins that don't appear in the touristic guides and usually aren't visited. In fact, a lot of inhabitants of Merida don't know they exist nor its history.
This tower is part of the city defenses. One of the hypothesis from the investigators is that this is the original roman wall, but with a decrease in its thickness.Another hypothesis is than the wall is from XI century, and for building this they reused the roman ashlars found by the city.
What seems clear is that this is the wall, by the used materials (ashlars) and for how the pieces are arranged.
With the demolition of the Maria Luisa theater a new wall has been discovered than is part of the original wall. This new wall was integrated with the theater building.
The archaeological works continue to decipher what is the true origin and age of these remains.
THE CACHE
YOU DON'T NEED to enter into the enclosure to find this cache, but if you want to observe better this tower and wall you can enter without problems because this is the terrace of a bar.
Please, be careful, this is a busy area with places from which you can be observed from the muggles...Please leave as you found. Don´t put hins or photographs for the container in the register.
