While looking for the cache, check out the historical wayside panels along the trail that discuss the Saginaw Timber Company that came through the area in the early 1900s. Notice the raised berms on which the trail travels and later traverses between. These were constructed by the timber company to create a level path for their narrow gauge railroad track which was used to transport lumber from the forest to the mill.
