It's amazing how many people drive past this old tower on their daily commute and probably don't think twice about it. We certainly didn't pay it much attention either. Then one day we became interested as we started doing our "Sky Liquid" series of caches, placed at interesting water towers all around Alberta. In fact we were surprised there was no cache near this old tower, which was a water-containing structure for the old Firestone tire factory of Calgary. It's not easy to come across information about the old plant that was here, apparently from 1960-1978.
The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company was founded by Harvey S. Firestone in Akron, Ohio. The name "Firestone" is a direct English translation of Harvey's ancestors' German surname, which was "Feuerstein." Anglicized, it became "Firestone."
Or maybe someone remembers a fellow who climbed the tower on a hunger strike and stayed up there awhile. Trying to find some news report on this. Back in the early eighties I believe.

The area is directly beside a bus stop/C-Train area, so you may want to be a little cautious of muggle attention as you search for the cache, but the tower is on public land, so you have every right to check it out.
