History of Mamakating O & W Rail Trail
The O & W Railway was a regional railroad that began in 1888 and operated until 1957. The main line ran from Weehawnken, New Jersey, to Oswego, New York with branches to Delhi, New Berlin, Pirt Jervis, and Kingston.
Today the O & W Railroad lives on as a recreational trails for public enjoyment.
In an ongoing effort to create world class destination for recreational trails, OSI continues to reinvigorate, repair, and develop trails in the area.
OSI and its partners envision that acquisition along the O & W rail bed, will one day help complete a 140-mile-long interconnected rail trail network running from southern Dutchess county, through Ulster, Sullivan, and Orange counties to the southern and western Catskills.
