Geocache Description:

Welcome to the 1st in a series of wherigo’s based on the game of Go Fish.

The game of Go Fish is played between 2 people who are dealt 7 cards each at the beginning of the game. The idea of the game is to make as many pairs as possible. A pair is any two cards with the same face value (as in two fours, or two jacks). Once you have a pair in your hand, you remove it from your hand. The players take turns in asking each other if they have a card value. If the other player does have the card, then they must give it to them and the asking player gets to ask again. If the other player does not have the card value then they get to shout, “GO FISH”, in which case the asking player must add another card to their hand from the top of the deck and it is then the next players turn. The asking player can only ask for a card value that they already have in their hand. The game continues on until one of the players has no cards left in their hand and the winner is decided by who has accumulated the greatest number of pairs during the game.

This is a play-anywhere wherigo, so you can play it in the comfort of your own home. The published co-ordinates are near a local fishing spot, and the cache is not too far away. Once you begin the cartridge, you will be dealt your cards and you will be playing against a bot that I have programmed to play. You get to go first, but before you do check through the cards in your hand and remove any pairs that you find. This is the only time you will need to do this, at any stage later in the game if you get a pair, the program will automatically remove them for you.

Like the real game, you and the bot will continue asking each other until one of you runs out of cards. The cards in the deck are randomized and act exactly as a normal, random deck of cards would in that there are 4 of each card value in the deck. During the game, whilst it is your turn, you can press the “Give me Info” button and it will tell you all the information about how many cards are in each hand, how many pairs you each have and how many cards remain in the deck.

This is the beginning version of this cartridge where the bot doesn’t count cards or use mathematics to work out percentages and likelihoods of what cards you have. It is programmed only to ask what cards it has in its hand. There is obviously a little luck involved, but it should be a pretty easy one to start with before getting stuck into the harder versions.

Once the game finishes, and if you have more pairs than the bot, the cartridge will reveal the final co ordinates for the geocache. Take a screenshot of this and then head over to another nice fishing spot where you will find the geocache that you seek.

The same cartridge can be played on both android and ios, however at the beginning you need to select the type of device that you are using (quick or slow). Ios (apple) devices will all work on the quick version; however some android devices will crash using this version. If this happens, restart the cartridge and try selecting the slow version. It will still load in under a minute and you will still be able to play the game. The cartridge can be downloaded here, and I hope you enjoy playing this as much as I did making it.
