This is a magical unknown place for most. On the water windsurfers can be found pulling tricks and going fast. This spot is home to some of the best Italian freestyle windsurfers, fe Giovanni Passani, Gigi Madeddu & Rossel Bertoldo. Next to these champs, there is heaps of other (inter)national (professional) windsurfers who come to this spot to have a good time to train in windy times. So when you just planned to stay home because of the hard wind (+5bft), go here and see some radical action from the cache spot!
But there is more to discover! Under the water in this lagune something else mysterious can be found. The Pinna Nobilis. This shell grows as tall as 80centimeters and connects itself to sand and seegrass with long silky hairs calles “byssus”. The innerside of the shell has beautiful pearly colours and contains little crabs. The outside of old pinnas can be covered with spunge or little mossanimals.
Back in the old days the shell was common to find and people liked it to eat, but now with the pollution of the seas and the fact that seagrassfields are disappearing rapidly it looses it’s natural habitat.
Chiara Vigo, a local artist from Sant’Antioco but known world wide, is using the byssus to weave and loom. Be sure to visit her at the Eco Museo del Maestro di Tela Chiara Vigo at Via Regina Margherita 168 in the town, check out her magical touch and connection with the elements!

Deze magische plek is bij velen onbekend. Op het water zie je, by veel wind, windsurfers die hard gaan en de meest radicale trucs doen. Dit is de home spot van Italiës beste freestyle windsurfers, zoals Giovanni Passani, Gigi Madeddu en Rossel Bertoldo. Naast deze kampioenen zijn er veel (inter)nationale (professionale) windsurfers die trainen en chillen op deze prachtige windrijke plek. Onder water, is er in deze lagune nog iets heel anders mysterieus te vinden. De Pinna Nobilis. Deze schelp groeit tot wel 80centimeter hoog en verkleeft zichzelf met haar lange zijdeachtige haren, die men byssus noemt, aan zand en zeegras. De binnenkant heeft parelmoerkleuren en er zwemmen kleine krabjes in. De buitenkant van oude pinnas kunnen bedekt zijn met spons of kleine mosdiertjes.
Vroeger kwam de schelp veel voor en mensen vonden ze zalig om te eten. Helaas door vervuiling van de zee en door het verdwijnen van zeegrasvelden verdwijnt de natuurlijke habitat erg snel.
Chiara Vigo, is een locale kunstenares uit Sant’Antioco. In haar vakgebied is ze wereldberoemd. Zij maakt van de byssus draden en weeft ze met haar weefgetouw tot kleine kunsttukjes. Je kunt haar atelier Eco Museo del Maestro di Tela Chiara Vigo bezoeken op de Via Regina Margherita 168 in Sant’Antioco, en erachter komen op wat voor magische wijze ze een connectie maakt tussen de elementen.
