This cache was originally called Lady Finger and was washed away in a winter storm. Container was buried in the beach sand and found by another cacher. It has been placed a little higher than the original hiding place.
It lies at the narrowest place on Broughton Strait. A lot of boat traffic passes by here from small runabouts to large cruise ships. At times it is also a very popular fishing spot with anywhere from one to sixty boats trying to catch and land the big one. Across the strait is Pultney Point Lighthouse on Malcolm Island and if it is foggy you will hear its high pitched horn shouting out its warnings.
To the west in the bay you will see the end of the conveyer belt and the ship loading platform operated by Orca Sand and Gravel. On the day we set the cache a large ship was being filled with gravel for California.
This cache can be accessed by land on most tides. The hike starts from the end of the spur road off Ledge Point Main and will take you a little more than one hour return. There is a picnic table where the trail hits the beach. The beach is very pebbly. If you wish, access to this cache can be by boat.
The easiest way to Ledge Point Main is to travel out of Port McNeill on Highway 19 towards Port Hardy, just past the Orca Sand and Gravel Operation take a short gravel road to the right down to Western Forest Products Mainline. Turn left and you will need to travel about 300 metres out it to Ledge Point Main. Watch for logging equipment Monday through Friday and on the occasional weekends, so be very cautious on this short piece of your travels. At the present time Ledge Point Main does not have any logging traffic but can have a lot of Muggle traffic (vehicles, quads and motor cycles). Take the first road to the left off of Ledge Point Main (Trail sign) and go to the end where the trail starts (well marked 50º 36.452 N, 127º 08.027 W).
As well Bald Eagles and other wildlife (squirrels, martins, bears etc.) can be seen out here. You also have waters edge view of Sointula, on Malcolm Island and out Broughton Strait to Queen Charlotte Strait. Bring your camera.
Cache is a large peanut butter container to hold trades.
