Joulupukin porojen johtajaa on kutsuttu Petteri Punakuonoksi. Petteri-porosta on monia kertomuksia, satuja ja myös lauluja. Porot kuuluvat tärkeänä osana Lapin luontoon. Niitä voi nähdä eri puolilla Lappia.
Kätkön alkupisteessä varmasti näkee poroja. Nämä porot eivät lennä, sen sijaan ne kimaltelevat ja heijastelevat komeasti. Petteri ja Petterin porot ovat ehkä toimineet myös esikuvana tälle parttiolle.
"Joulumaan porot Rovaniemen lentoasemalla ovat Taiteilija Urpo Kärrin huomatuimpia teoksia. Kärri suunnitteli porot laserleikatusta teräksestä. Porojen pintaa elävöittävät böömiläiset kristallit sekä tuulessa liikkuvat terästähdet. Porot nousevat maasta takajalkojensa varassa mahtavaan loikkaan kohti korkeuksia kuin joulusadussa ikään.
Poroja on kahdeksan; viisi hirvasta, kolme vaadinta ja yksi vasa. Porot asetettiin paikoilleen vuosina 1995-96 vähitellen, sillä kokonaisuuden rahoittamiseksi jokainen poro sai lahjoittajansa korvamerkin. Poroista on tullut Rovaniemen matkailun tunnus." These Christmas Reindeers at Rovaniemi Airport are one of the most notable works by artist Urpo Kärri. Kärri designed this work in laser-cut steel. Bohemian crystals enliven the reindeer surface with steel stars moving in the wind. The reindeer rise from the ground on their hind legs to a magnificent leap towards heights like in the Christmas fairy tale. There are eight reindeer; five deer, three reindeer, and one calf. The reindeer were placed in place in 1995-96, as each reindeer was given the earmark of its donor to fund the whole. Reindeer have become the tourism emblem of Rovaniemi.
