The CO was looking for a new spot to hide a cache and found Penguin to be empty on the map. So, now’s the time to fill the void! Penguin is a town known for the big penguin statue, other penguin monuments, playgrounds, a skate park, a nice beach or two, some historic buildings, and some penguins, of course! Common for tourists, Penguin draws a lot of attention due to being named the flightless bird. It has been further popularised by the 7 Day Makeover, where public seating and other improvements were added. The town encourages exercise, with footpaths and everything is close together. This series is supposed to enlighten and enrich people’s knowledge of this wonderful little town. Please be aware of muggles, especially on weekends, so please use stealth. I hope you enjoy the series! :)
If you are coming from the Ulverstone or Devonport area, it is worth following Penguin Road: the road with a view. It used to be the main road to Burnie many years ago, and it was bypassed by a new highway with double lanes. The road is used by the occasional school bus and follows the rail line beside the Bass Strait. The road presents many beaches, some with fish traps if you look close enough, and some local farms.
For your safety, I would highly recommend parking and grabbing this cache when you are travelling on the way TO Ulverstone, or travelling FROM Penguin. If you park where the lookout parking is and walk along the road, it can become quite dangerous, so please park at the posted coordinates, where there is a gravel area for parking, and the cache can be within 10 metres of the car.
The container is a magnetic key holder. To open, slide the lid (rather than lift).
