Geocache Description:

SLO

Zgradila sta ga brata Rudolf in Friderik z gradu Slepšjek pri Mokronogu in sicer brez dovoljenja takratnega lastnika zemljišča, freisinškega škofa.

ENG

Štrlek castle was first mentioned as castle Stralek in 1247, thus it is amongst the oldes castles in Slovenia. It was built by brothers Rudolph and Frederic of Slepšjek castle in Mokronog. It was built illegaly on the property of Freising bishop, who was the owner of the land. The bishop first wanted the castle to be demolished, but later decided to let the brothers stay in the castle. The castle had many owners in the next years and was looted several times. It is unclear when exactly it was abandoned, but the sources tell us it was a ruin in 1499.

The ruins still stand a few stone throws away from the swimming pools of Šmarješke Toplice spa. The cache is hidden in close proximity of the ruins. Do not search for the cache in the walls and please don't climb the ruins!
