The Beaver Brook Greenway, a 102 acre conservation area, acquired by the city of Northampton in 2010, lies within the Beaver Brook and Broad Book watersheds between Haydenville Rd on the west and forested uplands to the east. An old farm pond, a beaver marsh, low-lying abandoned hayfields, early successional forest, and extensive upland woods contribute to the ecological diversity of this parcel.
The wildlife blind at the north end of the site overlooks one of several recently dammed beaver ponds. The pool varies in size with the seasons and is a good place to look for wildlife. In addition to beavers, the marsh and open water are used by ducks, herons, woodcocks, frogs, and otters. The dams themselves are used as a crossing to the uplands by a variety of species, from deer and bobcats, to bears, coyotes, and wild turkeys.
The cache is a small lock & lock with room for swag and trackables. Placed with permission.
