Geocache Description:


The first stage of this cache IS in an old cemetery.
The final stage is NOT hidden in the cemetery.
Both stages are within Pine Point Regional Park.
Please respect the park hours.




The Washington County Poor Farm was established on this 207 acre property in 1858 as a place for chronically indigent men, women and dependent children, as well as the mentally ill and insane. During it's 100 year existence, the farm became a home and workplace for thousands, and a prize winning dairy farm. The farm was discontinued in 1957, pine trees were planted and the property became "Pine Point Park". The home continued as Pine Point Nursing Home until 1977, and after being vacant for a few years, became a lodge in the 1980s.

A nice hike on the yellow trail may provide seasonal views of the old house (now a lodge).

The "Pine Point Cemetery" was used for burial of residents of the poor house. It has existed most of its years as an unmarked farm cemetery and is not maintained by the county.

The posted coordinates will lead you to a marker telling about the cemetery. Reference Point 1 is a grave marker (possibly the only readable one left) located about 90 feet east. Use the cemetery marker and grave marker to determine the final coordinates.

The coordinates for the final are N 45° 0A.BCD' W 92° 50.EFG'
A = Number of words on the second line of the cemetery marker + 2.
BCD = The number of people buried here + 33.

E = The month number of the date on the grave marker.
FG = The day number of the date on the grave marker - 7.

Alternate method for EFG, since headstone is getting very tough to read:
EFG = (BCD * 3) - 3

Washington County vehicle permits are required for all motorized vehicles entering the park. Park hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 PM.
