Geocache Description:

On the way to Wild Karekare

Karekare Beach is a wild and beautiful black sand beach on Auckland's west coast. It featured in the famous beach scene in Jane Campion's "The Piano". Take a drive out to Piha and turn off down a skinny winding road that leads to the small settlement of Karekare and the beach. It is a popular surfing spot, although not a particularly safe swimming beach (always swim between the flags!) and there is also a waterfall and waterhole accessible by a few minutes walk. This cache is located just off the side of the track that leads to the south end of the beach.

The beach is particularly busy in summer, but whenever you go, if you time your departure from the track just right then you can be almost completely invisible at GZ.  The cache is in plain view, so should not be a problem for a cacher with a keen eye.  The cache is a large-ish hanging bison tube containing log only, so please BYO pen.
