Wild Karekare
Karekare Beach is a wild and beautiful black sand beach on Auckland's west coast. It featured in the famous beach scene in Jane Campion's "The Piano". Take a drive out to Piha and turn off down a skinny winding road that leads to the small settlement of Karekare and the beach. It is a popular surfing spot, although not a particularly safe swimming beach (always swim between the flags!) and there is also a waterfall and waterhole accessible by a few minutes walk.
While you're here visiting Karekare Beach, why not complete this short and easy multi-cache. Take the path towards the south end of the beach where you will find a small sign. From this sign you will get the info you need to calculate the location of the geocache and logbook. The beach can be busy at times, so please time your dash for the cache so that you don't look too suspicious - taking photos is always good subterfuge.
When you get to the published coordinates, answer the following questions and complete the simple maths to obtain the final cache coordinates:
A = number of words on the sign that start with capital letters
B = number of red circles
C = number of letters in the first word on the sign
Add (A x B / C) to the decimal digits of the south coordinates
D = number of blue wavy lines
E = number of minutes
F = number of words on the very last line of text
Subtract (D x (E + F)) from the decimal digits of the east coordinates
The final cache is a 200ml Sistema container and contains log only, so please BYOP. Now go get it!
