Camden Haven consists of a group of settlements being Laurieton which is the largest town and the commercial centre for the Camden Haven district; North Haven and Dunbogan. It was established around the 1870’s as a timber processing and shipping port and in the late 1880’s there were 4 timber mills operating in the vicinity. One was operated by Captain George De Fraine who acquired the lease and later the ownership of the mill built by Messrs Dun and Bagan (later known as the Dun-Bagan mill). Captain de Fraine was quite a character who probably should have lent his name to the naming of the village, or at least to one street or park.
The village of Dunbogan, which is situated on the south side of the Camden Haven River, was later named after Messrs Dun and Bagan, but it is unknown why Bagan became Bogan.
I’m guessing that Bagan became Bogan because he was the original bogan due to reports that he was an uncouth, unsophisticated person and was regarded as being of low social status. He sported a kind of mullet hair cut – very unusual for the time; also wore a hoodie and his pants were way too big for him as they dropped down showing his bum crack! The possibility that the name Bogan derives from an occupational name for a maker of bows is thought to be preposterous and has been rejected out of hand by the CO.
The cache is an M&M container to make it look like rubbish due to the mugglings recently. Hidden amongst the rocks on a beautiful and scenic part of Dunbogan. The break wall has created the deep and protected Pilots Beach which is very popular with young families in the summer, autumn and spring months.
