Geocache Description:

Short Walk to The Slab, which was an old alignment of road that caused utter mayhem for 2 big vehicles coming to this section of 101 at the same time before it was eventually bypassed by the section of 101 that currently exists. This short, 2-lane segment of US 101 was closed when the nearby bypass was constructed. This road is so narrow that large vehicles (18-wheelers and RVs) couldn’t pass each other going opposite directions. The truckers used to get on the CB radio and say “18-wheeler northbound on the slab.” Southbound trucks would slow down until the slab was clear, then announce their entry onto the slab. RVs didn’t know about how narrow this road was. Sometimes two would meet right at the narrowest piece and get stuck on each other. What a mess that was. The bypass solved this problem and the old piece of 101 is now state park property.  This cache is placed in close proximity to an old cache that was placed here when I first started geocaching back in 2006 which introduced me to this abandoned section of road that i find interesting. Its neat to think of what took place here when rounding a corner on this narrow stretch of road next to a shear drop off to the eel river below.  It definetly happened...a lot.

There is a Resident coin inside to be only discovered but left for others to discover and not taken. Hope you enjoy The Slab
