Game Night, Fall 2019 Edition Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

mrGreen317: If I don't archive this page within two days, HQ is going to do it for me. There will be no further announcement logs allowed on this page once it is archived, but please refer to the final announcement dated 12/21/2019 for the latest information on the next Game Night event.

We hope to have the final arrangements for this next Game Night event set up by the end of 2019. A "Write Note" will probably be posted with the next event details. All watchers of this event page will get an email on this note, so feel free to add this to a watch list if you would like to get that notification.

Thanks for your patience, and thanks to all of our attendees from the Fall event!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Geocache Description:

23 November 2019, 16:00 - 19:30

Saturday, November 23, 2019

4:00PM to 7:30PM

Pizza, games, prizes, and most importantly... geo-friends!

In an attempt to move these Game Night events around to different parts of JAGA-land, we were considering Cambria or Centre Counties for this Fall event. Due to not wanting to compete with Penn State football season, Cambria was selected, and the search was on for a place to host the event. Thanks to all who helped us by making various location suggestions. Ebensburg seemed the best spot as it is very central for most of those attendees coming from the various extents of JAGA territory.

Planned schedule:

4:00-4:30 - Meet and greet, final, "at-the-door" game registration; contestants get your name tags (if you have a trackable nametag, you are encouraged to use it)

4:30 - The pizza and drinks will likely be available near the start of the event, so enjoy some food and geo-chatting while we make the final preparations for the game system to be operational.

Geo-Jeopardy - Round 2! (Play-In Games starting between 4:30 and 4:45 pm)

m3a9 defends his title as "Reigning Geo-Jeopardy Champion" from the February Game Night. He will need three contestants to go up against for this game. Based on interest from those in attendance, we will have a bracketed sequence of trivia and other activities to select those three contestants from those event participants. Some of our favorite categories from the first game night will be back along with some new categories. Our buzzers and video question boards should be back in operation, and maybe theme music will finally be added this time around to provide a realistic Geo-Jeopardy experience. We will likely have the podium screens this time around, similar to those used in Wheel of Geocaching from the Summer Picnic Edition to keep score and help determine the proper order of buzz-in from the contestants.

5:45 - Game reset and intermission; if food is still available, get refills for the next game!

The Geo-Pyramid (6:00 pm, or later, depending on Jeopardy)

Pairing off in teams of two, contestants will see if they can give and guess clues to geo-related words in different categories to climb the pyramid and get the highest points score. Based on interest and the amount of categories available, multiple rounds may be played in a bracketed fashion to see who can get the most points to move into the final round and be named the overall winner. In the final rounds, once down to that two teams/"last four", we will do similar to the television game show where the teams trade partners after the first final round and before the second final round. Winner circle "dollar values" will be split between the two that play each winner circle of each team pairing. The single contestant getting the highest dollar value at the end is declared the overall winner for the game.

6:45 (or conclusion of Pyramid) - Final Trivia for all in attendance having not yet received any prizes during the earlier games

7:00pm (or later) - The room is reserved through 8:00pm. Stay and chat as you wish. Thanks for coming to the Fall Game Night!

Based on experience with past Game Nights, we will take whoever is interested in playing the games and not use any kind of pre-registration for this event. Depending on interest, various pre-game activities (including possible lottery-style drawing) may be used to determine the final three players to challenge the champion on Geo-Jeopardy and possibly to determine the contestant teams for The Geo-Pyramid (although if enough play categories are available for Pyramid, this may be done all through early rounds of the game as described above). We welcome both contestants and spectators alike! Come for the event smiley and stay for the fun of the games!

The Game Night series (past, present, future) is collected in one online resource:

game-night.org

Event location: The event will be held in the Ebensburg Room of the Quality Inn at 111 Cook Rd, along US-22 in Ebensburg, PA, also very convenient from US-219. If traveling from farther away, inquire about available rooms at the host site. Food and beverages will be provided by the Two "greens". Donations to help offset the cost of the event are welcome but not required.

Will Attend logs will be greatly appreciated to help us gauge the correct amount of food and drink that may be needed. Thank you!

See you there!
